by Hal Macomber
From Reforming Project Management

Toyota is one of the best. They are fast. They eventually get it right. They do it with strong methodology. It doesn't limit them. It guides their actions. Our projects need the same.

You Can't Manage or Improve what You Don't Understand
by Hal Macomber
From Reforming Project Management

Lean Coordinator Group next meeting

This is an opportunity to take the principles of lean construction into your business. We are open to a few more people who want to deeply explore how project management is currently being done, how we can improve on current practice, what are the values and principles of lean that can be easily applied to residential construction, and what is the best way to do that.

We will challenge the old beliefs that there has to be a trade-off between time, cost, and quality. We will develop models, practices, and disciplines that can be applied to any residential construction project. This will be a group that will be pioneering lean into the residential community. The benefits to doing so are:

  • You will be the expert in your company for bringing lean construction principles into your business and on your jobsites.
  • You will discover how to produce more work in less time and be more profitable.
  • You will be exposed to a wide variety of already existing research and resources on the value of lean, who is doing it, what the results are, and what it takes to make it happen from actual case studies of companies both domestic and international.
  • We will meet on a monthly basis to have group discussion, learn from each other, and implement what we are learning.

In addition:
We have been invited to join with another lean coordinator group that has been meeting on a monthly basis for several years from the commercial community. You will have first-hand experiences of the owners and project managers from DPR, Turner, Hererro, and many other local Bay Area firms that are now on the leading edge of lean implementation. We will have teleconference calls and online seminars with the leading experts of lean in the construction industry such as Glen Ballard and Gregory Howell, founder of Lean Construction Institute, Hal Macomber from Lean Project Consulting, and others.
